Following Beatrix Ruf’s announcement last week that she would resign her position as director of the Stedelijk amid reports of accusations of conflict of interest, the Amsterdam museum has named a new business director: Jan Willem Sieburgh. Starting on November 1, he will assume his new post, which includes taking over some of Ruf’s former duties.

Sieburgh comes from the Wereldmuseum in Rotterdam, where he is currently interim director. Prior to that, between 2013 and 2014, he was interim director of the Troepenmuseum in Amsterdam. From 2001 to 2010, he was the business director of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

Until last week, Ruf had been the museum’s director and curator. She departed from the museum following reports that she had been running an art advisory firm called Currentmatters, which was not noted in the museum’s annual report, and that Ruf had failed to disclose details surrounding a 600-work donation from Thomas Borgmann.

In a release last Tuesday, the museum explained that an interim business director at the Stedelijk’s management team will take over for Ruf. No details have been revealed yet about when the museum will name a new director.
