Cathleen Chaffee, VIA Art Fund 2018 Curatorial Fellow.

The VIA Art Fund, a nonprofit philanthropic arts organization, has named Cathleen Chaffee the recipient of its 2018 Curatorial Fellowship grant. This is the second year VIA has given out the award, which comes with $15,000 and helps support further research.

Chaffee plans to use her VIA grant to conduct studio visits with artists based in Lebanon, South Africa, and Egypt. In a statement, VIA president Bridgitt Evans said, “We are thrilled to bestow the VIA Curatorial Fellowship to Cathleen Chaffee, a curator who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to her field and whose forward-thinking approach to curating embodies the pioneering spirit VIA wholeheartedly embraces and champions.”

Before she became chief curator at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York, Chaffee held positions at the Yale University Art Gallery and and the Museum of Modern Art. For the Albright-Knox, she has curated Shade: Clyfford Still/Mark Bradford and a survey of mid-career artist Joe Bradley’s work, and is currently organizing the first museum survey of experimental filmmaker and musician Tony Conrad.
